Catherine Cheung is the Co-Director of PILnet's Hong Kong Office. Catherine co-manages the overall operations of PILnet's Hong Kong office. She designs and implements specific projects aimed at improving access to justice and building the community of public interest-minded lawyers and law students in Hong Kong. With an aspiration to combat inequalities, pursue social justices and civil liberties, Catherine began her career with the Civic Party, a political party striving for democracy, and obtained experiences in organizing political campaigns, social movements, and fundraising events in Hong Kong. Her interest human rights in Hong Kong and China grew through her political participation and work experience with Chinese NGO partners in a London-based organization promoting human rights and public participation in China. Prior to joining PILnet, she worked for a philanthropic foundation vetting grant proposals around the theme of safe migration and civil society development in Southeast Asia. Born and raised in Hong Kong, Catherine graduated with a B.A. in social policy and administration from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and an LL.M. in human rights from the University of Hong Kong.
