Sherry Soon: Advocating for an Inclusive Society
Sherry Soon is the founder of Be Kind SG, an informal volunteer group in Singapore dedicated to providing working adults with the opportunity to give back to society.
When she was twenty, Sherry was diagnosed with vasculitis, an autoimmune disease. Unable to find information and a relatable context for her condition, she started Autoimmune Diseases SG, to seek other individuals living with autoimmune diseases, so that there will be a safe space for them to share their stories.
When the pandemic hit Singapore, Sherry was running an auto-immune disease support group and observed people's increased anxiety. She responded to this by creating a care package project, which quickly gained traction and grew exponentially. However, suffering from an auto-immune disease herself, she experienced burnout during this process. This reminded her that leadership isn’t about doing it all herself, but rather equal parts self-care and working as a team to get the job done.
