Wendy Aura is the Executive Director of Young Women Leaders Connect (YWLC). She's also the founder of sheRise, an initiative that champions for girls' education. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Nairobi, Kenya. She's a young woman who's passionate about women empowerment and having championed for women's rights since 2016 when she led the Women students' organization in her campus. Last year, she was recognized in the Top 25 Most Influential Female student leaders in Kenya and Iconic Women in Mice. She has experience in communication and organizing events having been part of organizing committees of major events in Kenya, like the National Gender Based Violence Conference, Women In Business (East Meets North Africa) and Premier Peak Foundation charity dinner among others. During these events, she was in charge of key updates and follow ups of emails, keeping tabs on any development with partners involved and managing online marketing of the events. This helped much in publicity of the events and ensured consistent quality messaging on social media. She has volunteered to mentor girls in various schools and even teach in a school with needy kids. Through her initiative, she led a successful pads-drive that saw girls getting sanitary pads in 10 schools in the slums of Nairobi. During her time in the school, together with her friends, they obtained over 200 textbooks for the school which really learning materials. She has developed a strong passion for governance and hopes to be at the forefront for championing for women in leadership.
