Katie Sgarro

Katie Sgarro is the Co-founder and President of the tech nonprofit AsylumConnect. She has led AsylumConnect for 5 years in establishing the first and only digital resource platform designed for LGBTQ asylum.

Katie was selected as the winner of MCC15’s Millennium Peace Prize at the UN and BT Impact Challenge (2015) for her work on AsylumConnect.  She was named to the Clinton Foundation’s Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) Alumni Honor Roll of social innovators and a Mogul Influencer (2017), and a Washington Post’s WP BrandStudio Influencer (2018). In 2019, she became a Roddenberry Foundation’s Roddenberry Fellow. She joined Urban Justice Center’s Social Justice Accelerator and the Miller Center’s GSBI Social Entrepreneurship at the Margins (SEM) Accelerator. She has been a featured speaker on LGBTQ rights and public good technology, and her work has appeared in national outlets including Teen Vogue, Forbes, NowThis, The HuffPost, The Advocate, and The Hill.

Katie received a B.A. cum laude with distinction in Health & Societies from the University of Pennsylvania and a M.S. in Management from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
