Dr. Prakash Tyagi is the Executive Director of GRAVIS and Founder-Director of GRAVIS Hospital in India. He has studied Internal Medicine, Public Health and Geriatrics. He has also been a Fulbright-Humphrey fellow at the School of Global Health at UNC Chapel Hill, a recipient of Ford Fellowship and studied public policy through Fleishman Fellowship at Duke University. He has been leading GRAVIS since last 13 years. GRAVIS works extensively in the Thar Desert of India with key focuses on healthcare, water security, food security and drought mitigation. The organization reaches out to about 1.3 million people living in extreme poverty with its work and has helped formation of over 3,000 Community Based Organizations (CBOs). Dr Tyagi also leads a 70-bed rural hospital which is an important medical centre in that area of India serving about 60,000 people. He is an active global health practitioner and has contributed significantly in the fields of maternal and child health, geriatrics, HIV, TB and occupational health through his writing, research and field work. Besides India, he has contributed to health programmes in many other regions. He strongly believes in connecting the dots between community health and global health.
