Mary Burke

Mary Burke is the Associate Director for Educational Services at the Land Trust Alliance, the national leader in policy, standards, education and training for the land trust community. Mary serves as the managing editor of the Alliance’s digital and print publications and is responsible for all online training. She develops self-study online courses and produces more than 40 webinars per year on critical topics in land conservation and nonprofit management and governance. Mary also supervises staff that manage a 1,000 plus membership program and a learning management system. In her spare time, Mary serves as chair of the board of trustees of the Maryland Environmental Trust, and volunteers with Reading Camp Maryland, a program to help elementary school children develop critical reading skills. She also is a parent leader of a local project that teaches high school students organic gardening techniques and raises food for the local foodbank. In a past life, Mary taught literature and writing at the University of Maryland where she also earned her Ph.D. in English Literature. Mary also holds a master’s degree in English Literature from Georgetown University and a degree in journalism from the University of Texas.
